French Onion Soup
French Onion Soup is a classic French dish made with caramelized onions in a savory broth, topped with melted cheese and served with crusty bread.
Preparation
Step 1
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook, stirring frequently, until caramelized, about 30 minutes.
Step 2
Add wine and cook for 5 minutes until reduced by half. Stir in broth and thyme, and simmer for 15 minutes.
Step 3
Preheat broiler. Ladle soup into ovenproof bowls, place a slice of baguette on top of each bowl, and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
Step 4
Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.
