Hush Puppies
Hush Puppies are deep-fried cornmeal fritters that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They are a popular Southern side dish.
Preparation
Step 1
In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Step 2
In another bowl, whisk together milk and egg. Add to dry ingredients along with chopped onion.
Step 3
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Step 4
Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 5
Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
