A small family-run Cuban kitchen on Northeast 168th Street where the empanadas and croquetas are made while you wait, and that wait is precisely the point. The sandwich board is where it lives: pan con lechon, the media noche on sweet bread, croqueta preparada, ropa vieja, picadillo, the Miami with ham, pork and bacon. Plates run to lechon asado, vaca frita and bistec de palomilla with moros and maduros; yuca and tostones on the side; mango smoothies blended from real fruit. It closes Mondays and runs late the rest of the week. This is home cooking, with no asterisks attached.
