ANGELES FOOD – Restaurant

Hialeah wakes up early here. Doors open at five on weekday mornings and the coffee window keeps pouring until late afternoon, Sundays a shorter shift. This is a Cuban bakery in the old mould, trading behind the Angeles Food Corp filing, where the case fills with guava pastelitos, croquetas priced in pocket change, papa rellena, tequenos, Galician-style empanadas and pizza pastel. Sandwiches are pressed to order: Cubano, medianoche, pan con bistec, pan con lechon, pan con tortilla, choripan. Cortadito, cafe con leche, guarapo, batidos and fresh juices handle the thirst. Cheap, fast, unfussy, and about as Hialeah as breakfast gets.
