ASARO'S OF VENICE – Restaurant

A family pizzeria and ristorante on Laurel Road, grown out of a Long Island shop that opened in 1980 and now running in both Nokomis and Sarasota. The pies come New York style, plus Sicilian, grandma, white, eggplant and margherita, with gluten-free and cauliflower crusts available. Beyond pizza the kitchen is properly Italian: lobster ravioli, rigatoni San Marco, penne gorgonzola, linguini allo scoglio, chicken and veal marsala, flounder francese, salmon pistachio. The Asaro's caprese arrives with shrimp and burrata. Pistachio-crusted chicken and the cannoli are what diners mention most. Open seven days a week, and the takeout counter moves quickly.
