Bella's Bread and Butter – Restaurant
An almond-wood oven runs at 800 degrees behind this Melrose bakery cafe, an offshoot of Bella's in Israel's Galilee, and nearly everything passes through it. The sourdough ferments 48 hours before becoming focaccia, flatbread or pizza: margherita, mushroom, fire-roasted eggplant and zucchini. The all-day kitchen sends out the Sabich with roasted yams and spicy cilantro, salmon laffa, lox toast, eggs on thyme, labneh with roasted beets, and a kale-and-beet house salad. Bread, croissants and cakes fill the counter. Order there, then sit in the garden at the communal tables. Certified kosher dairy, so the cooking stays with fish and vegetables.
