BONO'S – Restaurant

Real pit barbecue in Jacksonville since 1949, and Bono's says the quiet part aloud: if you don't see a pit, it isn't legit. St. Louis ribs come off the smoke low and slow with two Southern sides and garlic toast. Platters cover pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey, sausage and chicken, in two- and three-meat combinations for the undecided. Smokehouse stackers carry names like the Bo Hawg, Slawpy Pig and Duval Hot Chicken. Start on fried green tomatoes, sweet corn nuggets or Southern fried okra. Sides mean Brunswick stew, collards, mac and cheese. Homemade banana pudding or cobbler closes it.
