Borekas (Van Nuys) – Restaurant

The Van Nuys Boulevard branch of Borekas Sephardic Pastries gets the easier end of the deal: plenty of parking and outdoor seating, so the box can be opened on the spot. Inside it, a long Sephardic boureka baked until burnished and cut into slices, in one of four fillings, feta and spinach, mushroom and truffle, ricotta and za'atar, or brown butter and potato. A hard-boiled egg, pickles, tomato pulp and fiery red schug come alongside and are meant to be combined. The kitchen is kosher and shuts for Shabbat. Ordering runs online or by phone. One pastry comfortably feeds two.
