Downtown Miami starts early at this Flagler Street counter, where coffee is poured from five in the morning and the steam table is loaded before the offices unlock. Family-run since 1986, Cacique cooks Cuban and wider Latin American home food: ropa vieja, vaca frita, picadillo, oxtail, lomo saltado and churrasco. Mornings bring the Cacique omelet and steak and eggs; midday sends out pan con bistec, pan con pollo and a Cuban Philly. The pastry case holds empanadas, papa rellena, tequenos and pastelitos. Regulars come for the portions and the speed rather than any ceremony. Closed Sundays, and shuttered by five.
