Real wood charcoal burns in an open pit on Rockaway Turnpike, and the bird comes first: whole chickens off the fire, charcoal or southern-fried wings, thighs and cutlets plated with two sides. Past that the kitchen works Portuguese and Latin angles together, with the Original Beef Bowl of shredded ribeye over Spanish rice and black beans, vaca frita under a fried egg, chicken and beef embrulhos rolled burrito-style, and Emma's chop chop tossed in house chimichurri. Falafel pita, schnitzel sandwiches, cholent and potato kugel keep it kosher, certified by the Mehadrin of the Five Towns. Closed Saturdays, Friday afternoons only.
