DAYDRIFT – Restaurant

A mid-century Art Deco hotel just off Collins Park, reworked into something quieter than its neighbours, and home to Las' Lap, chef Kwame Onwuachi's West Indian restaurant and rum bar. It runs from a lobby bar up through the dining room to a rooftop lounge with weekend DJ sets. Onwuachi, a James Beard Award winner, cooks to Creole, Nigerian, Jamaican and Trinidadian roots: escovitch crab claws with pickled carrot, onion and scotch bonnet; snapper ceviche with guacamole and tostones; Rasta pasta bucatini with manila clams; an oxtail Cubano; jerk mushroom yakitori. Dinner runs Wednesday through Sunday from five each evening.
