FRANCES GELATO – Restaurant

The gelato and cake counter of the Frances operation on Palm Avenue in Hialeah, run by a family with more than fifteen years in the trade. Gelato is made in house to an Italian recipe — the pistachio is the flavour people name, nutty with a faint salt edge — and the custom cakes are the other draw, sculpted and finished in imported fondant, often startlingly lifelike. Pastries and coffee round it out, with a small Cuban dining room next door. A bakery counter that takes its ice cream seriously.
