GASPAR'S GROTTO – Restaurant
A pirate bar in the middle of Ybor City's historic district, named for the local legend Jose Gaspar and decorated like it means it. The Cuban is the thing to order: sweet baked ham, Genoa salami, Cuban-style roast pork, Swiss, mustard and pickles pressed on fresh Cuban bread, with conch fritters, quesadillas and fish tacos filling out the rest. Sunday brings the Booze Cruize brunch and a fifty-foot buffet. Drinks are strong and cheap, which is much of the draw; service can drag when the room is full. Loud, silly, and completely at home on Seventh Avenue.
