Two minutes from the Anna Maria City Pier on Pine Avenue, gRub does barbecue with an island accent. Chef Ben Sato grew up on the island, trained at Johnson & Wales and cooked in Florida resorts before coming home to run a smoker: cherrywood brisket, honey-glazed ribs, mojo pork, peri-peri chicken, smoked wings, and the sandwiches built out of all of it. House sides and salads pull in citrus and spice; flatbreads round out the board. It's a beach-day restaurant — eat in, or carry it back to the rental. Smoke, sun, no ceremony.
