GUAVATE – Restaurant

Now settled on the ground floor of the Florida Citrus Tower, Guavate has been cooking Puerto Rican food since the Santos Burgos family started it in Orlando in 2005 - still family-owned, still dine-in only. Mofongo is the headline: garlicky mashed plantains, best taken con camarones al ajillo. Pernil, churrasco, tostones, rice and beans and a coconut flan fill out the rest. Weekends want a reservation. Reactions run enthusiastic more often than not, with the cooking and the attentive service drawing the loudest praise. Puerto Rico, at the foot of a landmark.
