Crystal River's Hungry Howie's sits on SE Highway 19 and runs on carryout and delivery. The pizza is the chain's standard, which means the crust is anything but standard: eight flavors at no extra charge, butter, butter cheese, Asiago, Cajun, garlic herb, onion, ranch and sesame, an idea the company has been selling since 1985. Original round, deep dish, thin and gluten-free bases are all available. Round it out with oven-baked calzone-style subs, Howie Bread, wings, tenders, salads, baked pasta and cookies. Dependable, fast, and cheerfully uncomplicated.
