LA GRAN PARADA – Restaurant

A small, plain Cuban room in Allapattah that opens at half past six in the morning and works straight through lunch. This is criollo cooking with no styling applied — pollo guisado stewed soft, oxtail braised dark and served with fries, plates anchored by rice, beans and plantains, and cold passion fruit juice to wash it down. Prices sit low enough to make it a several-times-a-week habit. What diners repeat is the value, the cleanliness and the friendliness of the place rather than anything about the room. Breakfast and lunch, done properly, for very little.
