maman's Miami Beach café opens at seven on Collins Avenue and immediately makes the case for slowing down: outdoor lounge seating, rustic French detail, and a pastry counter doing the heavy lifting before the kitchen fires up mid-morning. This is the New York-born French-American group founded by Elisa Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte, so expect the house baking — the nutty chocolate chip cookie named to Oprah's Favorite Things in 2017, seasonal croissants and cookies — next to salads, sandwiches, wraps and proper coffee. Breakfast, brunch, a light lunch, or just an afternoon sweet. Few rooms in South Beach wear their charm this easily.
