Downtown's all-day Mediterranean canteen sits at 36 NE 1st Street, where pita comes out of the oven hot and the shakshuka arrives still bubbling in its skillet beside an outsized round of challah. Motek is Hebrew for sweetheart, and the kitchen cooks Israeli, Moroccan, Lebanese and Yemeni dishes entirely without seed oils: hummus whipped smooth, crisp fried cauliflower, chicken schnitzel sandwiches, arayes stuffed with spiced beef and sent out with fries. Diners keep returning for the bread and for a room that hums from breakfast straight through dinner. Sweetheart is about right.
