Osteria Ester calls itself a love letter to Italian-American dining, and writes it in a small, warm room on East Central Boulevard in Thornton Park. Open with focaccia under garlic confit and rosemary, gnocco fritto with prosciutto and parmesan fonduta, baked clams oreganata with meyer lemon, or wagyu carpaccio Piemontese in hazelnut aioli. The pasta is the heart of it: pappardelle bolognese made vecchia scuola, paccheri alla vodka, braised beef tortelloni in brown butter and sage, a lasagna rotolo with whipped ricotta and all-day ragù. Butterscotch budino to close. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday, brunch Sundays.
