Sizzle Falafel & Shawarma Bar works Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows as the neighbourhood's glatt kosher Middle Eastern counter, certified by the Vaad Harabonim of Queens. The falafel is the thing - crisp chickpea patties packed into a sandwich - with shawarma alongside and the usual salads and sides to build a plate. The room is small and notably clean, prices sit comfortably under thirty a head, and hours run to half nine most nights, closed Friday and Saturday. Unfussy, kosher, and consistently good at two dishes it has no intention of overcomplicating.
