1804 BREAD – Restaurant

Named for the year Haiti won its independence, this North Miami counter puts bread and pastry first: Haitian bread by the loaf, akasan poured hot, and pate kode turned out baked or fried. Past the pastry case the kitchen runs a full Haitian plate. Griyo, stewed poul, fritay specials, the house chop bowl in two sizes, wings over seasoned rice, and, unexpectedly, pizza. Doors open early and stay open late, every day of the week. Regulars talk about patties arriving fresh from the oven and food that lands well seasoned. Independence-year cooking at neighbourhood prices, kept simple and kept honest.
