Abaita – Restaurant
Midtown East, on 49th Street, and a wood-burning oven doing most of the heavy lifting since 2018. Abaita is kosher dairy under OK supervision, and the name reads as home in both northern Italian dialect and Hebrew. Pizzas come out Neapolitan-blistered: margherita, classic marinara with crushed green olives and anchovies, artichoke under bechamel, piccante with shishito and Calabrian chili oil. Pasta is made in house, from tajarin with chanterelles to rigatoni saffron cacio e pepe and black fettuccine with summer truffle. Fish runs to whole sea bream and oven-roasted wild halibut. Diners talk pizza first, the calm bright room second.
