ALS PLACE – Restaurant

Open on North Scenic Highway since 1971 and still cash only, this is a beer bar with a kitchen that takes its sandwiches seriously. The breaded pork tenderloin is the order, wide and crisp and overhanging the bun, with fries or onion rings alongside. Fish sandwiches, chicken tenders and a shrimp platter round it out, and chili dogs turn up on Saturdays with drink specials. Out back there is a stage, and live music pulls a crowd that skews local and loyal. Regulars talk about portions and the unhurried welcome. Closed Sundays and Mondays. So bring cash and stay awhile.
