ATHENS CAFE – Restaurant
Opened in 1995 by Georgia and Vasilis Triantafilopoulos, Athens Cafe trades on meze: dolmades under warm lemon cream sauce, keftedakia, spanakopita and tyropita triangles, loukaniko sausage scented with fennel. Then the big plates, lamb shank, rack of lamb, lamb frikase, kokkinisto beef stew, bifteki, chicken souvlaki kebobs, moussaka, pastichio, papoutsakia, plus whole Greek fish, tsipoura or lavraki, priced at market. Vegetarian and vegan cooking gets its own section, and there is a full bar with Greek wine and beer. Baklava and Greek chocolate cake close things. A pianist plays Fridays, belly dancers Saturdays. Locally and veteran-owned, warm, and thoroughly unpretentious.
