The frosty mug is the whole point. A&W has made its root beer inside its own restaurants with real cane sugar since 1919, and the Belle Vernon branch on Rostraver Road pours it over vanilla soft serve for the float that carries the name. Around it sit the drive-in staples: beef burgers, hand-breaded all-white-meat chicken tenders, coney dogs, fries and cheese curds. There is a drive-thru, online ordering and a dining room open from ten each morning, an hour later on Friday and Saturday nights. Limited runs bring things like a caramel-spiked dirty root beer and a caramel cream freeze.
