BABETTE AT LA JOLLA – Restaurant
French technique, Mediterranean produce and a dining room built for long dinners: that is the shape of Babette in Coral Gables. Chef Dani Chavez-Bello, whose kitchens include elBulli and Bouley, runs it with Alexandra Oliveros, the two having met as children in Caracas. The carte reads entrecote au poivre, canard, halibut, beef cheeks, a cocotte of mussels and baby lamb built for two, with gnocchi under fresh truffle and caviar service for the occasion. Apple millefeuille closes it. Guests return for the romance of the room as much as the cooking. The restaurant is at present relocating within the Gables.
