BAIT HOUSE TACKLE AND TAVERN – Restaurant

A tackle shop and a tavern sharing one dock on the Clearwater Beach marina, trading since 1940 and selling bait and tackle from seven in the morning. The kitchen opens at half eleven: smoked fish spread, drunken shrimp, peel-and-eat shrimp, spicy tuna nachos, buffalo shrimp, seared tuna, seafood cakes and a clam chowder carrying the house name. Whatever the charter boats land becomes the catch of the day, served as island fish tacos, a platter, a sandwich, a reuben or a quesadilla. Burgers and a South Beach quesadilla cover the rest. No reservations, open-air seating. Order the key lime tart.
