Downtown Miami's least obvious doorway opens onto carved wood, bright paintings and a window ledge where you can sit cross-legged. Bali Cafe has served Indonesian home cooking on Northeast Second Avenue for years, and the kitchen doesn't cut corners: rendang sapi simmered slowly in coconut milk, opor ayam, ikan pesmol in aromatic spice, gado gado under garlic crackers, nasi goreng special piled onto one plate. Order the rijsttafel and the table disappears under lumpia, siumai, teri kacang and dessert. Sushi rolls and poke bowls share the menu, which sounds odd and works. Diners keep mentioning the warmth of the welcome.
