Steps from the Eighth Avenue trolley in historic Ybor City, Barterhouse pairs an open chef's kitchen with a speakeasy-styled bar pouring local brews, wine by the glass and 1940s classics rebuilt for now. The cooking is inventive American and built for grazing: bacon-wrapped dates with chorizo and pink peppercorn, blistered shishito peppers with romesco and bottarga, melted raclette with prosciutto and cornichons, fried oyster toast, octopus with confit potatoes, blue crab chilau over fresh spaghetti in Ybor-style tomato sauce. Dinner runs Wednesday through Sunday from five, happy hour daily from four-thirty, walk-ins welcome at the bar. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
