B&H Dairy – Restaurant
A narrow counter, a dozen stools, and soup ladled from breakfast until late: B&H Dairy has occupied the same Second Avenue storefront since 1938, when Yiddish theatres still lined the block. The kitchen is strictly kosher dairy, so no meat crosses it. Cheese blintzes arrive with sour cream; there is borscht, matzo brei, and thick-cut challah baked on the premises. Fawzy and Alexandra Abdelwahed run it now, and a 2022 National Trust for Historic Preservation grant funded the restored rounded green awning and the neon sign reading 127. Cramped, unhurried, closed Mondays. The East Village still keeps every stool warm.
