BISTRO 821 – Mediterranean
Thirty years on Fifth Avenue South and still opening at five every evening except Monday. The kitchen fuses Asian, European and domestic technique without losing the plot: miso-sake Chilean sea bass over the house mashed potatoes, snapper in a coconut, lemongrass and ginger crust with jasmine rice, bouillabaisse in a rich lobster broth, Caribbean rock lobster tail. Small plates are the fun part, from a crispy ahi roll and escargot in sun-dried tomato butter to baked brie with figs and truffle oil. Pastas take in seafood risotto and tenderloin tips with gorgonzola. Happy hour at the bar starts things off.
