BONDI SUSHI – Restaurant

Tucked on West Avenue on South Beach's bay side, this was Bondi Sushi's first Florida room after New York, with a long sushi counter inside and shaded tables on the wide sidewalk out front. The format is a hand roll bar: warm rolls handed over the counter in salmon avocado, spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion and cucumber sesame, plus nigiri, sashimi and the crispy rice regulars order without thinking. A twelve course omakase runs for the committed. Weekday afternoons bring cheaper rolls and cocktails. Diners keep returning for the freshness and the value. A small menu, done properly and without fuss.
