BRONX HOUSE PIZZA – Restaurant

St Augustine has two Bronx House kitchens, Uptown on North Ponce de Leon and Palencia on Paseo Reyes, both firing New York pizza in a gas-fired brick oven at 550 degrees. The crust is the calling card: crunchy edge, light and airy inside, chewy enough to hold a slice flat. Specialty pies include the Big Al and the Popeye, with Blue Steel deep-dish squares such as the Raging Bull and the Haymaker. Beyond pizza sit heroes, calzones, Sunday gravy with meatballs, spaghetti bolognese, eggplant parmigiana, garlic knots and fried lasagna balls. Gluten-free and vegan too. Real cooking, no nostalgia act.
