On the second floor of the Harel mall in Mevaseret Zion, Bagel Cafe does what its name promises: American bagels, built to order, in an Israeli cafe setting. You choose the bagel and pile it — cream cheese, vegetables, spreads — or go instead for a made-to-order salad, a quiche, or one of the blended iced coffees that carry a good share of the summer trade. Doors open at seven for the pre-work crowd, the kitchen holds mehadrin kosher certification, and it closes for Shabbat. Breakfast is the point here, and it keeps the room busy well past it.
