CAFE BERNIE – Restaurant

Chef Bernie Matz has put his own name on the door of a 1950s building on Collins Avenue, and the payoff is the water: bay views, red umbrellas, a bar that fills up at sunset. The cooking is South Florida bistro, meaning manchego croquetas with guava citrus dressing, grouper ceviche, mango bang shrimp and sweet potato tots under hot honey aioli, then zarzuela de mariscos, Florida snapper fish and chips, or linguine and clams. Brunch brings guava cream cheese French toast and smoked salmon benedict. Finish with key lime pie. Few Miami Beach rooms sit this close to the bay.
