CARIBBEAN TWIST – Restaurant

A Cuban and Dominican steam table on West Columbus Drive in Tampa, open from seven most mornings and running through to nine at night. The format is simple: one meat, two sides. Pick ropa vieja, pollo guisado, masitas of fried pork, chicharron de pollo, pernil, carne con papa or sweet ribs at the everyday end, then churrasco, oxtail, salmon or shrimp when you feel like spending more. Picadillo, pepper steak and baked fish fill the middle. Regulars talk most about the plantains and the size of the plate. Catering is quoted for weddings, showers and birthdays. Homemade, unfussy, genuinely generous.
