Breakfast starts at six in the morning here, and the cafe con leche keeps coming until late. Caribe Cafe Restaurant has served Miami's Cuban standards since the late seventies, now across five Miami-Dade counters run by the Alvarado family. The kitchen turns out ropa vieja braised with tomato, peppers and onions, empanizado de res, a whole fried pescado frito entero, ham croquetas, papa rellena and tostones rellenos stuffed with picadillo or shrimp. Breakfast means the Caribe sandwich, eggs, ham and cheese. Regulars talk about portions that defeat them and cooking that tastes like somebody's grandmother made it. Delivery daily too.
