CHINA HOUSE – Restaurant

Out on US Highway 301 in Hawthorne, China House describes itself simply as an eat-in and carry-out Chinese restaurant, which is exactly right for a small town on the Gainesville side of Alachua County. The kitchen closes Mondays and opens mid-morning the rest of the week. Its pu pu platter gathers Shanghai spring rolls, beef teriyaki, crab rangoon, barbecue spare ribs, chicken wings, jumbo shrimp and shrimp toast. Soups run past the usual to sizzling rice, chicken corn and bean curd with vegetable. Elsewhere on the card: Singapore mei fun, eggplant in garlic sauce, Buddha's delight and moo shu vegetable.
