Breakfast in Opa-locka starts early on Ali Baba Avenue, where Curley's trades on a short, keenly priced plate list rather than a long menu. Grits anchor nearly everything: bacon, eggs and grits with a stack of pancakes alongside, or fish and grits with the fillet fried or grilled to order. Service is fast and the room is small, so regulars phone ahead, and newcomers are warned that parking runs to only a handful of spaces. Reservations are not taken. Nothing here is dressed up, and that is exactly the point at a plain neighbourhood breakfast counter people keep returning to.
