Southern cooking on South Tamiami Trail in Venice, done straight and done all day: doors open at eleven and stay open until nine, seven days a week. Smoke is the backbone here — pulled pork, beef brisket, racks of ribs, smoked chicken, and pig wings that tables order to share. The kitchen also fries chicken, country-fried steak, okra and green tomatoes, and sends out crab cakes, chicken livers, chicken and dumpling soup and grilled pork chops. Sides mean collards, coleslaw, cucumber salad and mac and cheese. Bourbon pecan pie or banana pudding closes it. A casual room, with outdoor seating.
