DATILFURTERS – American
A hot dog cart on the Saint Augustine bayfront, built entirely around the datil pepper the city grows and argues about. The DatilFurter arrives on a potato bun under fresh-made datil relish, spicy mustard and a dash of Hawaiian black salt; the Saint Augustine adds sweet-spicy datil pickle relish and tomato relish. There is a chili-and-slaw version, a sauerkraut West King Kraut, a beef corn dog in honey-crunch batter, and a datil-infused andouille. Plant-based dogs, a hummus veggie bowl and cups of chili round it out. Three friends dreamed the whole thing up over a beer. Street-corner cooking, taken seriously.
