The Egyptian Cafe brings Middle Eastern dining and a hookah lounge to downtown Gainesville, seating roughly sixty-eight guests inside plus two patios. Restaurateur Mohey Osman built the menu around koshari, a layered plate of rice, pasta, chickpeas and lentils under homemade tomato sauce and crisp fried onions, alongside hummus, falafel and Umm Ali for dessert. The room runs late, open past 11pm most nights, with hookah service extending the stay well beyond dinner. Reviewers keep coming back for the hummus and falafel, calling the food and atmosphere worth the visit. It is a full table-service restaurant, not a grab-and-go stop.
