Fred's Market began in 1954 when Elton and Evelyn Johnson started feeding people out of a Plant City gas station, and the Lakeland dining room carries the same idea forward: Southern family cooking, served all day. Breakfast runs on separate weekday and weekend menus, then lunch and dinner take over with slow-cooked, unprocessed, farm-to-plate Southern plates. Kids eat free Monday through Friday, which tells you who fills the room. Diners come for the volume and the price as much as the cooking. Southern hospitality, still on the clock.
