HABANA'S BOARDWALK RESTAURANT – Restaurant

Tucked into a Mahan Drive strip mall, run by Havana natives, and going nearly two decades. The setting is plain on purpose; everything is aimed at the plate. Ropa vieja arrives with rice and black beans, vaca frita comes crisped and sharp with lime, and lechon, masitas, picadillo and bistek de palomilla anchor the rest. The Cubano is pressed to order, the croquetas go fast, and dessert runs to flan, tres leches and churros con helado. Regulars talk about the prices as much as the cooking, which is the highest compliment a neighborhood kitchen gets.
