Most pizza places treat the crust as structure. Hungry Howie's treats it as a flavor course — eight of them, brushed on the rim to order: butter, butter cheese, asiago, ranch, cajun, sesame, garlic herb and Italian herb. That decision, made back in 1985, still defines the brand. The menu underneath is unfussy and generous: specialty pizzas including the Howie Special and Meat Eaters, oven-baked subs folded from pizza dough, Howie Bread, Howie Wings, Howie Rolls, fresh salads and dessert.
