Monument Avenue, a Gulf town, and a pizza box that shows up hot — Hungry Howie's fills the everyday slot in Port St Joe. The chain invented Flavored Crust and still gives it away: butter, butter cheese, asiago, cajun, ranch, sesame, garlic herb and Italian herb, brushed on before baking and mixable in pairs. Beyond the pizzas there are calzone-style oven-baked subs, Howie Bread, wings and tenders, fresh salads and cookies. Carryout and delivery, with deals rotating. It isn't trying to be anything but reliable — which, with a full house on a Friday, is the whole job.
