JHOLANOS DELI – Restaurant

Behind a red door at 1390 S Dixie Highway, tucked into an apartment building and still wearing the previous tenant's faded sign, Jholano's turns out about a dozen Italian sandwiches and very little else. The bread does the heavy lifting - focaccia and strecci doppio, pressed until the outside crackles and the inside stays soft. The 3AM in Rome piles on hard salami, hot capicola, thick mozzarella and hot honey. The Tradizionale is a cold Italian sub done properly. It is a takeout counter with a few picnic benches out back, and the advice is unanimous: eat it there, not in the car.
