A small unit in a Tamiami Trail plaza doing rather more than its footprint suggests. Koi Sushi & Grill in Port Charlotte runs sushi and hibachi off one menu — sashimi and bento boxes, gyoza, poke bowls, rolls made to order — and pours milk tea alongside. Prices stay modest, the room stays friendly, and diners keep landing on the same three points: the food is good, the service is quick, and the bill does not sting. Closed Mondays, open late on Friday and Saturday. Nothing showy about it, which is rather the point.
