KUROMON – Restaurant

Named for the Osaka market it takes its cue from, Kuromon Sushi is a small North Beach counter betting on fish quality rather than spectacle. Bluefin turns up in the nigiri; the negitoro hand roll is the order regulars press on newcomers; tuna tataki comes sliced silky and dressed lightly. Rolls run from a straightforward spicy tuna to the salmon aburi and the Nikkei, and there is a sake list chosen to sit alongside them. Happy hour stretches through the late afternoon. What people keep saying is simply that the fish is fresh and the price is fair.
